Using the Knowledge Tree

Most Features in the
knowledge tree can be accessed by right clicking any node to reveal the
menu above.
Add Nodes: To Add a node, simply
right click the node you wish to add your notes to and select either Add Beside
or Add Inside. Adding notes inside will
place the note node inside the clicked node.
Adding notes beside will place the note node underneath.
Drag Nodes: You can drag a node inside of any other
node. To do so, simply click the node
you wish to drag and drag it into the node you wish to move it inside of. You will be prompted to make sure you
actually wish to move the node.

Once you select yes, the
node and all the contents of the node will be moved into the selected node.
Move Nodes: In addition to moving nodes inside of other
nodes, you can move them beneath other nodes as well. This can be used to change the order or
sequence that your notes appear in. To
move a node beneath another node simply click the node
you wish to move and drag it beneath the node you wish to move it under. A line will appear when you have dragged the
node to the correct location.

When the line appears,
simply drop the node and select yes when you are prompted to confirm your move.
Delete Nodes: To delete nodes, simply
right click the node you wish to delete and select delete node. You will be prompted to keep the children of
the deleted node or not. If the node has
children, selecting yes will only delete the top node. All nodes inside of the deleted node will
simply be moved underneath the parent of the deleted node.

Changing Node Images: Node images can be
either files or folders. Folders and
files can be used the same way in Cognotes and only
differ in their appearance. To change a
node image, right click the node you wish to change, select image, and then
select either file or folder.
Tip: a child node will have the same
image as its parent. If you wish to have
all of the children of a node appear as a file, you may change the parent node
image to a file temporarily.
Rapid Node Creation: Instead of creating
nodes one at a time, you can type a list of nodes in the summary panel and drag
them into a node in the knowledge tree. Cognotes will automatically create the nodes for you. To create nodes, use the
return key to designate each node and use the "*" character to indent
the node. The format is
illustrated below.

Searching
Notes: To
find notes, simply select the node you wish to search in, select the find tab
and type the key word(s) you are searching for. Cognotes will
return a list of all nodes that meet your search criteria.
