Cognotes' Maps

Revolutionize the way you Read! Once you organize your knowledge into simple folders, Cognotes automatically creates knowledge maps. All you have to do is assign the colors and images. If used, Cognotes Maps will prove priceless. They turn the context of your knowledge into a vivid space to navigate. What's more, they can even change the way you read. Instead of simply reading a book page by page, put the chapters and headings into folders, create your maps, and then summarize at every level. Not only is this often faster than reading, it is more effective. With Cognotes maps, instead of passively reading, you can construct meaning.

How to Make maps:  When you organize your notes in the knowledge tree (see Knowledge Tree Features tutorial), Cognotes automatically creates knowledge maps for you.  All that's left for you to do is change orientations, colors, and assign images.

Changing Orientation:  The orientation of a node will control whether its children will be ordered horizontally or vertically. To change the orientation of a node, simply right click the node, select orientation, and then chose verticle or horizontal.

Changing Back Color: To change the back color of a node, right click, select back color and choose the appropriate color from the color selector.

Changing Border Color: To change the back color of a node, right click, select back color and choose the appropriate color from the color selector.

Changing Image:  With Cognotes you can set the image for each node of your knowledge maps.  You can either select an image from the file system or the icon library or you can actually snag an image from your screen.

Image From File: To load an image from file, right click the node, select image, and then, from file.  You will be taken to Cognotes custom image browser which will display a preview of all the images you can select from.

Image From Screen: Making loading images a snap, Cognotes lets you snag images from your screen to make your maps.  This is ideal for snagging images from Google images or whatever your favorite image search engine is.  To snag an image from the screen, simply bring the image you will snag onto your monitor, bring up Cognotes and select the node you want to assign the image to, right click, select Image, from screen.  Cognotes will disappear.  Simply drag your mouse over the region of your screen you wish to load into the map and the outlined image will be snagged into Cognotes' image map.

Tips For Maximizing Space: A long line of files can cause for maps which leave a great deal of vertical or horizontal space unutilized.  You may want to group sections of notes into groups of three or for so that you can change the orientation of your nodes to use as much two dimensional space as possible.
